Educational groups and all interested individuals are invited to Salmon Ruins Museum for presentations, demonstrations, and conversations with Master Potter Oralia Lopez and Author John Bezy on August 4, 2016.
Lopez is one of several accomplished artists who have revived the tradition of Casas Grandes style pottery and created a modern adaptation of the tradition that follows in the footsteps and method of world-renowned potter, Juan Quezada.
Bezy, with Stuart Scott, authored The Artistry and History of Mata Ortiz, a discussion of the natural, archaeological, and artistic history of the community of Mata Ortiz, Mexico. Filled with photographs, readers learn of the relationship of modern Mata Ortiz art to the culture, tradition, and ancient site of Paquimé.
Three presentations and demonstrations with be provided at 9am, 11:30am, and 2pm. Book signing, conversation, and sales will be available all day, with all proceeds going directly to the artists.
